Remembering Harry Sylvester

We were saddened to hear about the passing of Harry Sylvester on January 13, 2008. Harry and his wife, Janet, founded the Learning Disabilities Association of Maine. Harry was a wonderful man, and a tremendous advocate for children and adults with learning disabilities.

A boat builder with tremendous mathematical gifts, Harry once said he could design a boat in his head and carve a model so perfect that it only had to be blown up to life size and would sail flawlessly. His tireless work for adults with learning disabilities was truly groundbreaking. He was president of LDA America for three years, spearheading a focus on adult issues that continues to this day. We were privileged to have had Harry as the speaker at Aucocisco School’s first graduation. Harry and Janet have been a great source of support for Aucocisco since our inception. We will miss you, Harry.
